Download free office suite - download LibreOffice for Windows, macOS (Mac OS X), Linux. Originally based on OpenOffice.org. The problem, for me, with OpenOffice for Mac has always and is still its poor integration in the MacOS X environment, and one of the consequences I deplore the most is the painfully slow scroll through large documents. NeoOffice doesn't suffer from that flaw (it's a flaw for me), as scrolling is much easier and faster. Aside from that, and like all the other suites stemming from the OOo core, its functionalities are quite interesting, like its capability to export a document in the PDF format natively. I just wish it were a little faster to load and to scroll through documents. Oh yes, one thing: it's free. Very good to see it keep pace with the Windows version in terms of release date and version. Only complaint is again about the interface not being native to OS X and instead relying on X11. Neo Office is one alternative solution, but hopefully the main folks on the Open Office project will be able to update the entire suite so that it takes full advantage of the native OS X interface. Please keep up the good work. It is fantastic to have the same suite on Windows, Linux and OS X. Maybe soon, Microsoft Office will be a faded memory for many of us who don't really want to use it. If they can just get that OpenDoc format (or whatever) figured out and standardized, we can use Open Office APPS with Microsoft Office FILES and not miss a beat. That would make life much better for consultants who interface with clients reliant on the Microsoft Juggernaut. Openoffice is an “office-like” productivity suite that is looking to steal some marketshare from microsoft. The x11 public beta will run on darwinppc 6.0 and higher as well as on mac os x jaguar. Mac users be warned: this is not your typical mac app, and only those who are familiar with darwin and/or unix should give this one a go. The application requires that xwindows is running. (open source xwindows) is included in the install package. Openoffice.org is requesting testers to help work out the bugs in the beta and continue with a full release. Thanks to for the link. User comments 48 comment(s) nice thought, but (2:48pm est wed oct 16 2002) for openoffice to succeed on the mac, it'll need to look and feel like a native application. People choose the mac as a platform for a reason — it's easy to use and gets the job done with minimal hassle. If they need to spend a little money for an office suite, i expect they will, rather than using a free-but-clunky solution like openoffice. The screen shots are butt-ugly, and a pretty face is the least of openoffice's problems. Don't get me wrong, i'd love for this to succeed, and one day it might, but it's going to take a lot more work from the openoffice developers. I've tried using a mac. I found it's ui confusing, misplaced and sluggish. Oh ya, any system i buy must have a mouse with more than 1 button (otherwise why would god give us more than 1 finger?) – by looks mean nothing.
